As offers to help Fort McMurray wildfire evacuees continue to stream in from across the country, three Grade 12 students from Airdrie, Alta. want to help fulfill the dreams of three fellow high school seniors by escorting them to their graduation.

Josh Bunz, Jeffrey Webb and Chase Battle, who go to Bert Church High School, put out a call for grad dates on Facebook. The seniors wanted to do something to help and thought this might be a great way to do it.

“We still have plus ones so we might as well take a grad date from Fort Mac to give them a chance to experience the whole thing,” Webb said.

“Grad is pretty important to us and we figured it was pretty important to them as well because it’s a once-in-a-lifetime thing so we don’t want them to miss out on an opportunity like that.”

As of Friday afternoon, Battle and Webb had dates for the June 4 ceremony, but the search was still on for a companions for Bunz. The two girls set to attend the ceremony are friends and are currently staying in Edmonton.

“It’s a dinner and a dance so our dates would come with us to the dinner and dance and pictures of course. So they would get that whole experience.”

In their Facebook post, the boys said “funds aren’t an issue so don’t be shy.” Interested suitors are asked to contact the young men through Facebook or Twitter.

“We strongly encourage other students to do the same thing,” Webb said of their offer. “All over the province would be sweet.

Bert Church High School is paying the $85 fee for the dates to attend the banquet and dance. Dresses for the Fort McMurray girls have also been arranged if they need outfits.
