The nephew of Rob Ford says he will run for his late uncle’s vacated council seat.
This after Toronto city council voted unanimously to hold a byelection in Ward 2, Etobicoke North.
Within minutes, Michael Ford announced he had resigned his position as school board trustee to enter the race.
“Three generations of the Ford family have served our community. I want to build on this legacy of public service, and that means showing up at your door when you need assistance,” he said in a statement.
“My message to the residents of Ward 2 is simple: together, we can accomplish great things for our community.”
Council voted 40-0 in favour of a byelection, to be held July 25.
The Ward 2 seat was vacated after Ford died in March following a long battle with cancer.
