MONTREAL – Quebec provincial police are investigating after police shot and killed a man in an apartment on 4720 Ontario St. Est.
Montreal police officers were called to the home, just south of the Olympic Stadium in the borough of Hochelaga-Maisonneuve, around 8 a.m.
“They were responding to a man who showed signs of psychological distress,” said Mélanie Dumaresq, with the Sûreté du Québec (SQ).
The man was apparently making a lot of noise inside the home.
He was transferred to hospital, where he later died.
“We heard shots in two seconds. It felt very robotic,” said neighbour Laurent Vignault-Pinard, who added that it is very rare to see police cars in the neighbourhood.
“It was three quick shots in a few seconds – one, two, three.”
SQ officers are on the scene to analyze the events leading up to the shooting.
