Oprah surprises Weight Watchers meeting in New York City

Oprah Winfrey joined Weight Watchers six months ago and surprised a group of women at a meeting in New York City this week.

This was the first Weight Watchers meeting the 62-year-old attended in person.

Winfrey was in The Big Apple for a screening of her new show Greenleaf, and only her coach and the meeting leader knew she would be stopping by.

The lifestyle guru brought along her friend and fellow Weight Watchers member, Gayle King, and asked her Twitter following to join her on Facebook Live five minutes before entering the room.

Naturally, her appearance shocked many in attendance. She later explained that she usually attends meetings online.

 

After the Facebook Live broadcast ended, Gayle King took to Instagram to post a photo of Oprah “being a good student.”

In October 2015, Winfrey announced she had taken a 10 per cent stake, costing $43.2 million, in the weight loss company.

The former talk show host went on to join the company’s board of directors and began its diet plan.

She’s since lost 26 pounds, and she and King regularly document their progress on social.

Weight Watchers was founded in 1963. The company has used celebrity spokespeople to strengthen their image and raise membership sales. Former brand ambassadors, include Jennifer Hudson, Jessica Simpson and Jenny McCarthy.
