What you need to know about the Blue Jays’ home opener

The Toronto Blue Jays are set for their sold-out home opener Friday night as they battle the Boston Red Sox at the Rogers Centre.

There are plenty of pre-game festivities ahead of the first pitch and fans are encouraged to arrive at the ballpark early.

Here’s what you need to know about the home opener:

  • Rogers Centre gates open at 5 p.m.
  • Each fan will receive a 2015 AL East Championship rally towel
  • One lucky fan will be awarded a brand new 2016 Honda CR-V EX
  • Opening ceremonies start at 6:55 p.m.
  • Josh Donaldson to be presented with 2015 MVP award by George Bell
  • Sgt. Cindy Scott and Sgt. David Grenon from the Canadian Armed Forces will perform national anthems
  • Members of RCMP along with 250 Canadian Armed Forces members will carry the Canadian Flag
  • Game begins at 7:07 p.m. ET (Rogers Centre roof will be closed)
  • Starting pitchers: Blue Jays – Marcus Stroman, Red Sox – Joe Kelly
