SASKATOON – Voters in the Saskatoon Westview riding have spoken and Saskatchewan NDP Leader Cam Broten has lost his seat. Sask. Party candidate David Buckingham claimed victory during the 2016 provincial election.

The candidates were separated by approximately 232 votes.

Buckingham spent two terms as mayor of Borden, Sask.

Broten was the incumbent in the newly-named riding, having been first elected MLA in 2007 and again in 2011.

In the last election, Broten won the Saskatoon Massey Place riding with almost 54 per cent of the vote, followed by the Saskatchewan Party’s Fawad (Ali) Muzaffar with just over 43 per cent of the ballots cast.

Broten was chosen as leader in March 2013.

It’s unknown at this time if Broten will step down after a losing his riding.
