Between the team’s first division championship in over 20 years and Jose Bautista’s infamous bat flip, the Blue Jays had a pretty successful season in 2015 – both on the field and on Twitter.

But days before the official start of the 2016 season, the team is already off to a good start when it comes to social klout.

The Toronto Blue Jays are set to open the season with 1.3 million followers, making them the second-most followed team in Major League Baseball. The team gained over 230,000 followers in the off season, passing both the Boston Red Sox and the Philadelphia Phillies in terms of followers.

According to Twitter Canada, the team also features some of the most followed baseball players in the league.

Bautista (@JoeyBats19) holds the title as the fourth-most followed player in MLB – thanks to a little help from that bat flip. American League Most Valuable Player Josh Donaldson (@BringerOfRain20) boasts over 288,000 followers.

Another social media success story is pitcher Marcus Stroman, who gained 140,000 new followers over the last 12 months after live tweeting his rehabilitation from a torn ACL. Stroman will start for the Blue Jays in the American League opener at Tampa Bay on April 3.

Last year the team encouraged fans to #ComeTogether to support the team on social media, but it’s clear that the Jays are ready to take their winning streak even further this year, using the hashtag #OurMoment to promote the team online.
