Body discovered in burned-out car in Blainville identified as that of local waitress

MONTREAL – The Sûreté du Québec has confirmed the identity of the body discovered early Sunday inside the trunk of a burned-out car north of Montreal.

The deceased was Linda Bonette, a 50-year-old Blainville resident.

Her body was discovered by local firefighters and police who had responded to a call about a burning vehicle near the corner of Jean-Guyon and Michèle-Bohec Sts. in Blainville at about 5 a.m. Sunday.

Her remains were so badly burned that police could only initially confirm that the victim was female.

News reports described Bonette as an employee of a local bar who was last seen leaving work at about 3 a.m. Sunday.

Police confirmed to Global News that Bonette left the bar with quite a bit of money and she may have been in charge of taking home night receipts.

On Tuesday evening, provincial police were continuing their attempts to piece together the circumstances surrounding her death.

Sûreté du Québec are requesting help from the public and have released a photo of Bonette, as well as a picture of the type of car she was driving – a 2000 Pontiac Grand Am.

SQ Sgt. Benoit Richard hopes a tip from the public will lead to arrest in the case.

He confirmed that police have few clues, “She was clean as a whistle.”

Anyone with information can go to the command post at the intersection of Jean-Guyon and Michel-Bohec Street or call the Sûreté du Québec at 1-800-659-4264.
