It’s well known cats have nine lives, but did you know they can survive eight days inside a box?

An English woman made that discovery after she accidentally mailed her Siamese cat named Cupcake more than 400 kilometres inside a postal package filled with DVDs.

“I never realised she was in there,” said Julie Baggott, Cupcake’s owner.

“It was a pretty big box,” added Baggott. “She’d obviously just fallen asleep in there, and yeah I don’t know.”

The recipients of the DVD order contacted the SPCA, who tracked down Baggott through an implanted microchip in Cupcake.

“It was actually my parents – they had a phone call. They couldn’t believe it,” explained a relieved Baggott. “It was a miracle.”

When Baggott noticed Cupcake was missing, she frantically started searching for the feline, even putting up posters of the missing cat.

It never crossed Baggott’s mind that she accidentally mailed Cupcake.

“I couldn’t believe it when I heard it,” said Baggott. “I’m so happy to have her home, to have her back.”

Veterinarians treated Cupcake for extreme dehydration which required intensive treatment.

“When they’ve not eaten for a few days, they can get jaundice when they start to break down their fat stores,” said Ben Colwell from Grove Lodge Vets in Worthing, West Sussex.

“She was lovely in pink, so she was really lucky.”
