OTTAWA – Elizabeth May spent more than any other federal party leader to secure her seat in last October’s election.

Financial reports filed with Elections Canada show the Green leader spent almost $230,000 to win her British Columbia riding of Saanich-Gulf Islands.

May’s riding association raised roughly $220,000 to pay for May’s campaign; she was the only Green candidate to win a seat in the Oct. 19 vote.

Justin Trudeau, who led his Liberals to victory, spent just over $183,000 to hang onto his Montreal riding of Papineau.
