An armed response unit is now a permanent part of the security protocol at the Ontario legislature.
The armed guards were approved following the deadly shooting on Parliament Hill in October 2014.
A number of officers from the Ontario Legislative Security Service will now be equipped with handguns, the exact number on any given day will not be disclosed.
Armed Ontario Provincial Police officers used to provide security at the legislature until its own security force was created in the late 1990s.
