A baby Indian rhinoceros made its first public appearance at the Toronto Zoo on Wednesday alongside its 11-year-old mother Asha.
The male calf, who has yet to be named, was born last month and was introduced to the media inside the zoo’s Indian Rhino Habitat.
Zoo officials say this is the first healthy birth for Asha and Vishnu, the calf’s 12-year-old father.
The Indian rhinoceros is considered a threatened species as there are approximately 2,000 left in the wild.
Four Indian rhinoceroses have been born at the Toronto Zoo with the last being a female named Sanya on August 14, 1999.
