A 22-year-old man has been arrested and charged with manslaughter after a wrong-way crash claimed the lives of an Ontario couple, a 16-month-old baby, and a fourth passenger in Texas last month.
Wilson Rene Molinares, who was also seriously injured in the three-vehicle crash on Feb. 19, was taken into custody on Thursday by Kyle Police with a bond set at $1 million.
Heinrich Martens, 31, Gerhard Hiebert Peters, 30, Margaretha Wall Hildebrandt, 27, and Jacob Wall Hiebert, 16 months, were killed after a vehicle driven the wrong way on Interstate 35 in the community of Kyle, south of Austin, collided with their minivan.
Authorities say Molinares was in a Honda Civic when it struck the minivan head-on. The victims were pronounced dead at the scene.
Police say two young children who were also in the minivan survived the crash. A driver of a pickup involved in the wreck was treated at the scene.
The Kyle police department says Molinares’ condition prevented authorities from making the arrest sooner.
