Saskatchewan election results 2016: Sask. Party wins Regina Walsh Acres riding

Warren Steinley of the Sask. Party has won the Regina Walsh Acres riding with 3,546 votes beating out the NDP’s Gloria Patrick who got 2,964 votes.

Summary: An urban riding in the northwest part of Regina. Saskatchewan Party MLA Warren Steinley seeks re-election in this riding.

Boundaries: Regina Walsh Acres includes the neighbourhoods of Regent Park, Walsh Acres and Sherwood McCarthy. The riding stretches from McCarthy Boulevard in the north to to 1st Avenue North in the south. It also goes west from Courtney Street and east to Pasqua.

Last Election: Saskatchewan Party candidate Warren Steinley defeated NDP incumbent Sandra Morin by 1,191 votes, 58 per cent to 39 per cent.

History: The district was called Regina North West until 1995 and Regina Sherwood from 1995 to 2003. The majority of MLAs have been members of the NDP party. From 2003-2011, Sandra Morin served as the NDP candidate and Lindy Kasperski was the NDP MLA from 1995 to 2003.

Candidates

Saskatchewan Party: Warren Steinley, member of the Standing Committee on Intergovernmental Affairs and Justice, Private Bills Committee, and Chairs the New Ideas Committee. He was elected Deputy Caucus Chair in July 2014.

NDP:  Gloria Patrick, Master’s student in Social Work at the University of Regina.

Liberal: Reina Sinclair, community manager for a Regina rental properties companies. Former provincial and Liberal candidate.
