WINNIPEG — Fire crews are on scene battling a blaze in the West End end area on Friday morning.

The fire broke out just after 9 a.m. at 626 Sargent Avenue, right on the corner of Maryland Street. Smoke could be seen billowing out of the building.

The building was the former Royal Canadian Legion Branch No 1, which closed down in 2015. The location was Canada’s oldest legion.

Fire officials said no one was inside at the time.
