Pasqua Hospital water supply to be temporarily shut off this weekend

Hospitals in Regina and Saskatoon are at capacity and if it continues to go this way for the next while, possible patient transfers to rural hospitals could be expected. File / Global News

REGINA – Patients and staff at the Pasqua Hospital will experience water disruptions over the weekend while water lines under the building are repaired.

Water will be shut off to the entire building while the repair work is underway, which is expected to happen from 11 p.m. Friday night to around 6 a.m. on Saturday.

“We became aware a couple of weeks ago that a leak had occurred on part of the booster pump system for the city water pressure,” said Sharon Garratt, VP of Integrated Health Services. “Parts were ordered and have arrived, and hospital units were consulted on the best time to schedule the maintenance.”

Once the system is restored, it will need to be flushed and the water needs to be tested to ensure it is safe to drink.

It is expected that the water will not be confirmed safe to drink until at least mid-afternoon on Sunday.

Garratt said that work is being done to ensure that patients have access to clean drinking water and washroom facilities.

The hospital’s fire protection system will not be affected by the shut off as it runs off of a separate line.
