EDMONTON – The rightful owners of a bundle of letters dating back to 1946, which were found inside a stolen vehicle, have been located.
Bonnie Rasmussen says the letters were written between her father, Gen. Mungo Clark and his sister Margaret Clark.
Rasmussen, who lives in Sylvan Lake, Alta. and works in B.C., hopes to pick up the letters with her children later this week.
Rimbey RCMP began searching for family members of the Clarks late last week after the letters were found inside a stolen vehicle earlier this month. At around 11 a.m. on Friday, Feb. 5 Rimbey RCMP arrested a woman who was driving the stolen vehicle. Officers took the letters out of the vehicle and are keeping them in a safe place.
An address on one of the letters indicates Mungo was with the Canadian Army overseas with the 40th Battery, 11th Field Regiment.
At least one of the letters to Mungo was sent to an address in Craik, Sask. Another letter to Mungo was sent to an address in Regina.
One of the letters to Margaret was sent to an address in Hamilton, Ont.
“These letters are likely of sentimental value to family members and have been preserved by someone since 1946,” Rimbey RCMP said in a media release Friday.
“The RCMP cares strongly about seeing the letters returned to where they belong.”
Kaylyn Holmgren, 26, has been charged with 20 criminal code property and provincial traffic offences. She is scheduled to appear in court on March 4.
