‘Supergirl’ actress Melissa Benoist dishes on acting with husband: ‘we have fun’

Supergirl returned to Global Monday night and ET Canada’s Rick Campanelli visited the set of the breakout hit to get the goods on what fans can expect from the cast.

“I think it’s safe to say the arrival of Non, the Kryptonian Non, is going to really change things,” star Melissa Benoist shares.

Fans will remember the show’s mid-season finale left off with a pretty spectacular cliffhanger, as Supergirl was mid-battle with Non, the husband of her evil aunt Astra and her strongest foe yet.

“You pick up in that same place for that fight and then it’s all you know what breaks loose,” co-star Chyler Leigh adds.

“There’s lots of really, really big, exciting explosive things happening.”

Speaking of which, Supergirl might have left fans wondering what the outcome of her battle was, but the cat’s out of the bag when it comes to Kara’s boss and her secret identity.

“That’s a terrifying moment,” Benoist tells Rick, with Mehcad Brooks adding that although Cat Grant might think she knows what’s going on with her assistant, the cast is trying to outwit CatCo’s head honcho.

“My character, James, is trying to make sure that Cat Grant doesn’t suspect Kara as being Supergirl,” he says. “We’re trying to convince Cat that maybe Cat is reading into something that’s not really there and that is a difficult task because Cat is very astute.”

Now if explosive conclusions and secret identities revealed aren’t enough, the cast is getting a new addition in the form of Benoist’s real-life husband and former Glee co-star, Blake Jenner.

“He just shakes things up at CatCo and Kara may or may not have a crush on him,” Benoist tells us coyly, adding that any day she gets to work with her husband is a good day.

“We have fun acting together, yes.”

Supergirl airs Monday’s at 9 p.m. ET on Global.
