Heavy snow has paralyzed many parts of Turkey, closing schools, delaying flights, and making for treacherous road conditions, with some areas recording as much as two metres of snow.

In the Black Sea coastal city of Rize, in the northeast corner of the country, the first major winter storm of the season was blamed for injuring two pedestrians on Monday.

Crowds of people were sent running when an avalanche of snow fell from the roof a mosque, burying two people.

The moment was caught by a security camera, which recorded passersby coming to the rescue, attempting to uncover the buried victims.

A bus crash in central Turkey that killed at least seven is also being blamed on the wintry conditions.
