York Regional Police are making it publicly known that they offering “bottom-level luxury” accommodations for all impaired drivers on New Year’s Eve.
The amenities mentioned include “open-concept suites,” “intimate fluorescent lighting,” and “supportive concrete beds.”
The accommodations are part of a satirical social media campaign warning people to refrain from drinking and driving on New Year’s Eve.
A tongue-in-cheek video released gives viewers a first person account of what it’s like to enter the “palace of no-class comfort.”
“Our suites are divine and your comfort is far from paramount. Each suite boasts stainless steel appliances and a firm mattress made of real Canadian concrete,” a voice in the video explains.
In terms of food, an egg sandwich is offered to all guests with a gluten-free option available.
The force also posted a bill for a one-night stay at the “tawdry fortress of solitude,” totalling close to $13,000.
Among the costs are $10,000 in legal fees, about $400 in impound fees and a $1,000 impaired driving fine.
Police are reminding the public impaired driving is a serious offence which can lead to fines, jail time and may cause serious injuries or death to others.
