Regina family left with nothing after morning fire on McIntyre street

REGINA – Just hours before Christmas day, an early morning house fire Thursday has left one Regina family with nothing.

“I had candles lit and before I left I did blow them out, but I just kind of blew them and rushed out the side door,” said Tania Pratt, who rented out the property on McIntyre street.

Everyone knows the rush the holiday brings, but a day before Christmas, Pratt never expected to come home to her house in flames.

“I got home and I parked and on the side. I looked up and I saw flames at the corner of the house there,” explained Pratt.

She immediately went across the street where her landlord lives to notify him.

“They came and got me at 1:30 in the morning to come put the fire out,” said the landlord.

By the time fire crews arrived it was too late.

“We were there in 6 minutes and upon arrival we observed the house was fully involved with fire,” said deputy fire chief Layne Jackson.

Several hours of fighting the blaze left the home destroyed, stripping away the owner’s investment property and leaving Pratt with nothing.

“My Christmas is, that I’m out 20 thousand bucks,” said the landlord.

“Just everything like all my stuff, personal pictures, you know all that I can’t get back, ” cried Pratt. “All the kids gifts for my four kids and granddaughter. Everything is just gone.”

Instead, she sits with her sister comforted that she and her children are safe. But on the eve of Christmas things aren’t so merry.

“It still doesn’t seem real. I got no home to go to, nothing,” said Pratt.

“But she’s got her siblings, we’re all beside her. She’s got a place here,” added her sister Tammy.

The community has already begun gathering donations for the family.

The family says any donations can be dropped off at 350 Hamilton street.
