Comedian Steve Harvey may have capped 2015 off with a whopper of a mistake during the live Miss Universe broadcast, but he wasn’t the only television personality caught in a moment of awkwardness this year.
From a royal smack that cracked up a Global News studio to an alleged bank robber running right by a live reporter, here’s a brief rundown of hilarious and cringe-worthy moments that were not supposed to happen in 2015 and a couple days before.
Sorry, you’re not Miss Universe
The Miss Universe contestants surrounded Miss Colombia Ariadna Gutierrez on Sunday after Steve Harvey announced she had won the pageant.
“I have to apologize,” Harvey said. “The first runner-up is Colombia.”
The shock on the face of winner Pia Alonzo Wurtzbach of the Philippines said it all.

The Price is Right model Manuela Arbelaez mistakenly revealed the price of a new car on the game show in April.
Arbelaez accidently unmasked the correct $21,960 price after the contestant’s first pick, even though the participant still had two more chances to guess.
Champagne saber lesson explodes in guest’s and anchor’s face
Two days before 2015 even started, anchor Steve Darling and Four Seasons Wine Director Emily Walker were supposed to demonstrate how to saber Champagne. Looking back at both soaked outfits that came out of the Global BC studio that day, it’s safe to say their plan blew up in their face. The description doesn’t get more accurate than that.
Nobody tells me to “shut up!”
Rima Karaki, an anchor on Lebanon’s Al-Jadeed TV, was interviewing London-based Islamic scholar and sheik Hani Al Seba’i in March when he told her to “shut up.” His reaction was in response to Karaki asking him to stay focused on the topic they were discussing.
She did not “shut up.” But she certainly shut the interview down – and was praised widely for it.
Hello, ladies…
It’s not exactly a tough life when it’s “too wet to wear a shirt” and you just happen to have a chiseled physique to show off. Ethan Renoe, a 24-year-old devout Christian, just happened to be running by a live reporter earlier in December when he was asked about his activity in the rain. After a brief explanation, he let the world know he was available for love.
“I’m also single, so give me a shout!”
Renoe’s clip has been viewed millions of times.
Food imported from off-planet could be pretty gross
CKPG sports anchor Rich Abney went from Prince George to viral fame in August after an off-colour pun about food in space.
News anchor Aileen Machell had just wrapped a report on three astronauts aboard the International Space Station taking the first ever bites of lettuce grown in space when Abney seized the moment.
“Got to say, it seems like a better idea than eating food grown on Uranus,” Abney declared.
Co-anchor Camille MacDonald’s facial reaction is now the stuff of legend.

Does the seemingly daily dose of Kardashian family news drive you bananas? Why are they even important? That’s the feeling FOX 35 anchor John Brown had when he walked off set on live television in August.
Brown eventually returned to the set and later apologized on Facebook.
What not to do when robbing a bank
Iowa television reporter Adam Sallet’s coverage of a bank robbery went from traditional to downright jaw-dropping when the alleged thief returned to the scene of the crime while Sallet was live broadcasting.
“What? Oh, that’s the robber?!” he said as a bank employee ran past his camera. “I have to go. I have to call 911.”
The suspect was later arrested.
Royal smack inspires stitches in the studio
Maisie Gregory, 6, was accidentally smacked in the head by a saluting soldier in June – just moments after the child gave Queen Elizabeth II a bouquet of flowers at a Colours Parade for the Royal Welsh Regiment in Cardiff.
The royal smack left Global Edmonton anchors Shaye Ganam and Erin Chalmers in stitches on the anchor desk.
Bieber forgets his microphone is on
A September performance by Justin Bieber live on The Today Show gave viewers a rare glimpse at what makes the Canadian megastar frustrated.
“The camera’s there the whole time, I might as well not even dance,” Bieber said, walking up to the camera as the show went to commercial. “What do I even do this for if they are just going to…”
The broadcasters recovered during the break and the show continued uninterrupted.
“Are you not impressed!”

So you could image The Morning Show host Liza Fromer’s reaction when Lacerda lifted a student over his head and began pronouncing his strength to the heavens.

Australia’s 9News anchor Karl Stefanovic was left speechless at the end of August after broadcasting a terrifying Discovery Channel clip of a gigantic four-and-a-half metre shark leaping out the water in slow motion.
“I am never going back into the water,” he told the audience.
