CALGARY – Two people were sent to hospital Saturday night, after the car they were in was struck by a CTrain in the city’s Northeast at around 4 p.m.
The LRT smashed into a car along 36 Street and 12 Avenue N.E.
The vehicle was dragged along the tracks for several metres.
The Jaws of Life had to be used to extricate two people, a man and a woman, trapped inside the car.
EMS rushed the victims to Foothills Hospital, but the 73-year-old male driver died upon arrival.
The 71-year-old female passenger remains in critical, life-threatening condition.
No one on board the C-Train was hurt.
Police continue to investigate what caused the collision.
Police shut down the road for several hours.
Transit sent out shuttle buses to run between the Rundle and Marlborough LRT stations.
