Ukraine‘s interior minister has released a video of Monday’s session of the Ukrainian Reform Council which turned into a water-throwing spat.
The incident has highlighted tensions between the Ukrainian government and independent figures of reform, such as Mikhail Saakashvili, the current Governor of Odessa.
At the Monday meeting, Interior Minister Arsen Avakov challenged Saakashvili about his alleged approach of a Russian tycoon about privatising a large chemical plant.
Ukrainian news reports said Saakashvili in turn accused Avakov of financing a private militia through corrupt means and demanded that video of the council session be made public.
The video that Avakov released on Wednesday shows Saakashvili shouting at Avakov across the table, accusing the minister of being a well-known “thief.”
Avakov then threw a glass of water at the former President of Georgia, who was sitting a few chairs away.
Ukrainian President Petro Poroshenko initially tried to call for order and asked Avakov to avoid profanities but in the end called the meeting closed.
Poroshenko’s spokesman on Tuesday upbraided both for the incident.
