TORONTO — Since last week, Toronto has seen a rash of violent crime that had city officials reassuring residents and even had one city councillor musing about calling the the military.
It began last Friday with the unprovoked stabbing in a downtown drugstore that’s left a woman in grave condition and most recently left a Ryerson professor and cancer researcher dead after an apparent robbery gone wrong during his evening walk.
Since Friday afternoon, six shootings and nine stabbings have killed three people and put more than a dozen in hospital, some in critical condition.
