TORONTO – The Toronto Zoo’s eight-week-old giant panda cubs have partially opened their eyes and are getting their first glances of the real world.
Zoo officials say the twins are still very sensitive to light and can’t see very well just yet.
Despite their limited vision, the cubs’ vocalization is also getting much stronger “developing from what once was a quiet squeak to what can now be described as a stronger squawk.”
The zoo said both pandas weigh just over 2,000 grams and average 48 centimetres in length.
Both cubs remain off-limits to the public and won’t be viewable for several more months as they continue to grow.
“This is still a very critical time for these cubs. Both Er Shun and the cubs will remain in the maternity den,” said the zoo in a media release.
