UPDATED: Winnipeg “Angel Squad” sets a Guinness World Record for largest gathering of angels

WINNIPEG – More than 1,200 Manitobans gathered to break a new Guinness world record for the most angels together in one spot.

Each angel wore a sewn gown along with halos and painted wings at the Mulvey school yard along Wolseley Avenue at 8:55 a.m.

The goal was for more than 1,200 angels to participate Tuesday, as the record is currently 1,039 angels held in Germany.

That number was reached Tuesday morning, with 1,275 angels crowding on to the school yard.

The money raised from the event helps support the Misericordia health centre foundation, improving art and music, long-term care, eye care as well as sleeping disorders.

“This starts Christmas for Misericordia and our Wolseley community… it’s really great to have everyone out,” said Jacuzzi.

Global News partnered with the Angel Squad to raise money for the Misericordia Health Centre Foundation and was part of the event.

This is the 20th year the squad is aiming to collect donations on December 2 and 3.

“We’ll be raising money starting 7:30 Wednesday and Thursday to support the programs and services at Misericordia,” said  Jacuzzi.
