27-year-old Toronto man killed, woman wounded after shooting in west-end

TORONTO — Police have identified the man killed in an early-morning shooting in west-end Toronto Monday.

Police said the incident happened just before 5 a.m. ET. in the area of Finch Avenue and Highway 27.

It is alleged that two vehicles were travelling eastbound on Finch when an altercation took place and shots were fired.

Police said the male victim in his 20s was taken by a female driver to the old Humber River Hospital location at Finch Avenue and Keele Street.

As that hospital was closed and no longer in service, paramedics were called and transported the male to the new hospital at Wilson Avenue and Highway 400 where he was pronounced dead.

The female driver was also treated for a gunshot wound to the leg.

Police identified the deceased as Jamahl Darling, 27, of Toronto, and an autopsy is scheduled for Tuesday. 

Police said the vehicle involved in the shooting was a dark, four-door, newer-model, crossover SUV.

They allege there was more than one passenger in the vehicle and it was last seen travelling eastbound on Finch Avenue West.

“This appears to be something that was not random but certainly something that worries us all,” Supt. Ron Taverner said.
