After Prime Minister Justin Trudeau detailed Queen Elizabeth II’s long and full career, she cheekily expressed her gratitude, thanking him for “making [her] feel so old.”
Trudeau toasted the Queen at a dinner during the Commonwealth summit in Malta on Friday night.
“A modern history of our nation can be written entirely with vignettes from your life,” he said.
“Pierre Elliot Trudeau was your fourth Canadian prime minister. I am your twelfth.”
“Thank you, Mr. Prime Minister of Canada, for making me feel so old,” she quipped in response.
Trudeau took to twitter to explain his view, saying “on the contrary, you are forever young.”
Since being elected on Oct. 19, Trudeau has been to the G20 summit in Turkey, the Asia Pacific leaders’ summit in the Philippines, and currently, he’s at the Commonwealth summit in Malta. He’ll head to Paris for the United Nations Conference on Climate Change on Monday.
