Bobbi Gillcash has made a remarkable and courageous recovery after being critically injured during a large windstorm that hit Metro Vancouver last August.
But her journey is far from over. Her rehab at Vancouver’s GF Strong Rehabilitation Centre ends in January. After that, she plans to move into a friend’s home, which will prove to be a physical and financial challenge.
Gillcash was badly injured after being crushed by a falling tree branch.
After she spoke with Global News about her struggles, offers of support poured in, including one from Marcon Construction, which can assess the house she will move into and build an accessible entryway.

“When you have the ability to be helping your community in different ways and things are within your ability to do, people should step up and do it,” said Marcon’s Nic Paolella.
“Seeing this news story come out, we felt it was something that we could definitely step up to the plate and offer up a little bit of our services to Bobbi to make her life a little easier.”
For Gillcash, the support has been overwhelming. She has received more offers than she can use.
“It’s very surprising how generous people are willing to be when somebody else is in dire straits. It’s so much appreciated that people are willing to help. It’s very heartfelt.”
The staff at GF Strong have prepared Gillcash for what comes next. Life will be harder to navigate, but she has shown that it can be done. A little help from the community will go a long way to making it that much easier.
