TORONTO – A 27-year-old Richmond Hill, Ont. man was arrested Tuesday after he allegedly called police to help get his car started but instead got caught for impaired driving.
It is alleged the accused called York Regional Police on Nov. 24 around 2:30 a.m. ET. for assistance to get his vehicle moving in the area of Bathurst Street and King Road in King Township north of Toronto.
Officers arrived on scene to find the car running with the headlights and windshield wipers on.
After speaking with the driver, police noticed signs that the man was under the influence and brought him to a nearby station for assessment where he tested over the legal limit.
Andrew Scuglia was subsequently charged with one count of impaired care or control and over 80 care or control.
Police are reminding the public that a vehicle doesn’t need to be moving for a driver to be charged with an impaired care or control offence.
York police encourages anyone to call 911 if they believe a motorist is impaired by drugs or alcohol.
