Whistler and Cypress opening early for 2015 ski season

Good news for skiers and snowboarders, both Whistler and Cypress are opening early for the 2015 season.

Whistler is opening today and Cypress is set to open on Friday. Blackcomb Mountain will open as scheduled on Nov. 26.

Officials at Cypress say more snow fell on the mountain on Tuesday than any day last season, which was a tough one for the local mountains. Cypress was forced to close early due to a lack of snow. Hemlock Ski Resort never had the chance to open at all and Mount Washington suspended operations early due to the weather.

However, over the past seven days at Cypress, about 75 cm of snow has fallen, with the base at about 39 cm. Snow-making machines will also be working to create more of a base for skiers and snowboarders.
