Americans threatening to move to Canada if U.S. takes in Syrian refugees

Many Americans are threatening to move to Canada if the U.S. allows Syrian refugees into the country.

Disgruntled Americans voiced their threats of heading north of the border on social media this week as the U.S. debates whether to open its doors to those fleeing the Syrian crisis.

U.S. President Barack Obama pledged to take in about 10,000 Syrian refugees in 2016, while Canada has pledged to take in 25,000 by January 1, 2016.

Some Americans are not too happy about opening the country’s borders.

“That’s it, I’m moving to Canada! @BarackObama you are what can I say an idiot for bringing in these refugees?,” Kara Harvey tweeted.

“If we take in these French refugees I’m moving to Canada. I quit,” a possibly confused Caitlin Jewski said.

This isn’t the first time Americans have threatened to make a run for the Great White North.

In June, social media lit up with the same idle threat after the U.S. Supreme Court legalized same-sex marriage in all 50 states.

Here’s a look at some of the latest reaction.
