Riders QB Darian Durant says he’ll be ready to go by January

REGINA – Saskatchewan Roughriders quarterback Darian Durant says he’ll be ready to return from a season-ending Achilles tendon injury by January.

Durant suffered the injury in the Riders’ season-opening loss to Winnipeg.

But the 2013 Grey Cup-winning quarterback says his recovery is ahead of schedule.

Durant shrugged off doubts about his future, saying everyone that he’s seen go down with an Achilles injury has comeback as a productive player.

He says it’s been an unlucky year for quarterbacks, noting that the nine clubs have started an unheard of 20 different players under centre.

Durant also admits “it’s crushing” to watch from the sidelines as the Riders struggle to a dismal 2-15 record this season.
