A crash on the Sea-to-Sky Highway near Lions Bay on Sunday has claimed the life of a woman.
According to RCMP, a Honda Civic hatchback that was travelling northbound lost control, flipped over the median and landed on its roof in the southbound lanes, crashing into an oncoming Nissan Sentra. The highway was closed for several hours and three people were taken to hospital with one person in critical condition.
On Friday, Sea to Sky Traffic Services confirmed that the passenger in the Honda Civic has died of her injuries and the driver is still in hospital in critical condition.
The driver of the Nissan was the only occupant and the extent of their injuries is unknown.
Police are still in the early stages of investigating the cause of the crash but preliminary information suggests speed and road conditions were a contributing factor.
Anyone with information about the crash is asked to contact the Squamish RCMP at 604-892-6100.
