16 cattle killed after semi collision at new Nobleford roundabout

LETHBRIDGE – Picture Butte RCMP and the Alberta Commercial Vehicle Enforcement Agency are investigating an accident at the newly-constructed roundabout at the intersection of Highway 519 and Highway 23.

Wednesday night at approximately 11:35 P.M., police responded to a single vehicle collision at the intersection, near the Village of Nobleford.

A semi caring cattle northbound on Highway 23 struck a the newly-built traffic circle and overturned. As a result, 11 cattle died on impact and an additional five had to be euthanized by veterinarians on scene.

The driver and the truck’s lone occupant suffered minor injuries.

Police said alcohol and drugs were not involved, road conditions at the time were dry with good visibility in all directions and traffic was light to moderate.

The collision is currently under investigation, with charges under the Traffic Safety Act and Commercial Vehicle Safety Regulations pending against the driver who is a resident of Saskatchewan.
