Homicide detectives investigate woman’s death in north Edmonton

EDMONTON – Homicide detectives have been called in to investigate the death of a 54-year-old woman.

Police were called to a “suspicious death” in the area of 130 Avenue and 123 Street at around 4 p.m. Saturday.

Neighbours said a woman lived in the home for about 10 years with her common law boyfriend. They believe the pair recently broke up and he moved out.

Neighbours who knew her described the woman who lived in the home as a friendly, quiet neighbour.

“It’s a little concerning. This is a fairly close-knit neighbourhood, at least this street is. Everybody knows everybody else,” said Mike Giesinger, who lives two doors down. “Everybody gets along fairly well.”

“It’s shocking,” added George Monilaws, who has lived in Calder for more than 20 years. “It’s sad… We’re all kind of shaken up about it.”
