Nova Star cruises recieves the last of $13 million fund promised for 2015 season

HALIFAX – The operator of the Yarmouth, N.S., to Maine ferry has received another $1.9 million to keep the service afloat.

The money is the last installment of $13-million in funding promised for Nova Star’s 2015 sailing season.

The ferry carried a total of 52-thousand passengers this year, well below its projected goal of 80-thousand.

Nova Star Cruises has now used a total of $41.5 million in provincial funding.

Four companies – including Nova Star Cruises – have submitted proposals to run the service next year.

Nova Star Cruises has run the ferry service since it was relaunched in 2014, but the company has struggled to hit passenger targets.
