RICHIBUCTO, N.B. – A commissioner with the New Brunswick Commission on Hydraulic Fracturing says they are continuing to meet with residents and gather submissions related to shale gas development in the province.
On Thursday, commissioners met with residents in Richibucto, where residents have been vocal opponents to the controversial industry.
Marc Leger is one of three commissioners who heard their concerns.
“It was a very insightful and respectful discussion and we hope they felt heard because we certainly heard the message they were providing to us,” he said.
Willi Nolan was one of the residents who spoke with the Commission and says she’s concerned about hydraulic fracturing and she wants the shale gas industry out of New Brunswick.
“We asked them to put a permanent moratorium on hydraulic fracturing because it makes no sense economically, ethically, scientifically or morally,” she said.
The Commission will continue to gather submissions until November 20.
After their information has been gathered, they will submit a final report to government.
