Wheelchair-bound father surprises daughter, walks her down aisle

It was a walk to remember for an Orchard Beach, Maine bride whose wheelchair-bound father got up and walked her down the aisle on her wedding day.

Ralph Duquette has had to overcome many obstacles in his life, including surviving cancer, being in a coma for nearly a week and becoming blind in one eye. And because of that, Duquette and his daughter, Heather, had agreed that he wasn’t ready to use his legs.

But that didn’t stop Duquette; he practiced all summer with physical therapists to beat the odds, and got up out of his wheelchair to walk his daughter down the aisle.

In front of 75 friends and family on Oct. 10, he did just that.

With a little help on the way.

But he was shortly on his way again.

According to WCSH News, Duquette even danced with the new bride for the father-daughter dance.
