Driver clocked at nearly 200km/h on Alberta’s QEII Highway

EDMONTON — A 22-year-old Edmonton man has been charged after being nabbed driving nearly 200 km/h on the QEII Highway near Innisfail.

At around 2 a.m. Sunday, an on-duty RCMP officer was driving north on the QEII near the central Alberta town when he saw a black BMW speeding by. The officer used his radar and recorded the driver speeding at 197km/h in the 110km/h zone.

The driver has since been charged with speeding, operating an uninsured motor vehicle and operating a vehicle with an improperly issued licence plate.

The man is scheduled to appear in Red Deer court on Dec. 21.

RCMP ask the public to immediately call 911 if they see a vehicle driving recklessly or at high speeds.
