Two of the four men charged in connection with a kidnapping and homicide that ended in North Vancouver are out on bail.
Dyllan Green, 20, and Jacob Gorelik, 18, were both charged with indignity to a body, but lawyers for the two indicate they may not have known about the alleged kidnapping or homicide.
“There’s very little evidence that my client knew what was going on even after he was there,” said David Fai, defence counsel for Green.
“In order to prove this offence, they would have to prove that my client knew there was a body that was being moved and that he was participating in it. They don’t have that evidence, in my respectful submission.”
Gorelick’s lawyer Glen Orris said his client, “was brought into this matter literally at the last minute without really knowing what had gone on before.”
Staff from the Chinese consulate apparently attended court last Friday, but no consulate spokesperson was available for comment on Monday. One staffer was quoted as saying that they are assisting the RCMP to determine if the victim, Peng Sun, is a Chinese national.
Two suspects who are facing kidnapping charges, Tian Zhang and Casey Hiscoe, are being held in custody as the investigation continues.
Hiscoe was apparently attacked by five other inmates at the North Fraser Pretrial Centre Monday morning. Hiscoe was not in protective custody but that now may have changed.
Meanwhile, two of the four arrested in connection with the death are back with their families.
