Man charged in death of Nicholas Hannon is son of high-profile RCMP officer

Three men were charged in the death of Nicholas Hannon last month, 19 months after he went missing just weeks shy of his 20th birthday.

Now, as another court appearance looms for the three, we’re learning more about one of the suspects.

21-year Connor Angus Campbell is the son of former RCMP Spokesperson Corporal Catherine Galliford, and his father is a current member of the RCMP, Sergeant Major Darren Campbell.

Galliford was the RCMP media liaison for high-profile cases including the Pickton murder investigation. In 2012 she filed a lawsuit against the RCMP claiming she suffered years of sexual harassment while on the force.

While neither parent has spoken directly about the charges, Campbell’s father spoke to the Vancouver Sun.

“It is an incredibly difficult time. All I can comment on is from the perspective of a father. I can’t comment on anything in terms of the investigation because I am not a part of it – it’s heartbreaking and it’s devastating and it’s devastating for every family involved,” he said.

The revelations came on the same day Hannon was laid to rest in North Langley Community church.

“I thought it was a wonderful service. It really did him justice. It showed who he was, and how he was, and how wonderful he was,” said his father Craig.

The three men charged – Campbell, Bradley Flaherty, and Keith Tankard – will make their next appearance in court on Monday. Craig Hannon is confident there will be justice for his son, however long it takes.

“The wheels of justice turn slowly, but the outcome will be what we want.”
