Edmonton artist creates SpiderMable T-shirt, proceeds go to Children’s Wish Foundation

EDMONTON — Thanks to an incredible wish granted by the Children’s Wish Foundation, SpiderMable has captured the hearts of thousands of people right across the country. And now, one Edmontonian who was captivated by SpiderMable’s story has a plan to give back to the organization that orchestrated it all.

“They, and many other charities in the city, can really use the extra recognition and the give-back for what they’re doing,” said artist Jason Blower.

“Because really, SpiderMable not only gave back to Mable, she gave back to the city in a lot of ways too.”

Blower has designed a SpiderMable T-shirt and all of the proceeds from the sale of the shirt will go directly to the Children’s Wish Foundation.

“The idea actually came from somebody up on Twitter that sent out a message that it would be a great idea if someone did up a T-shirt, wink, wink to me,” said Blower.

So, with the help of a local print shop, Blower has decided to pre-sell the shirts. If he gets orders for 500 shirts he will print and distribute them. Blower said this is the most cost-effective way to produce the shirts and raise as much money for the Children’s Wish Foundation as possible.

On Monday, six-year-old Mable was transformed into SpiderMable and whisked around the city for a full day of superhero action. The six-year-old, who lives with acute lymphoblastic leukemia, had a dream to fight crime like her hero Spider-Man, so the Children’s Wish Foundation made it happen.

SpiderMable’s goal was to rescue Edmonton Oilers Captain Andrew Ference from the evil Mysterio, and she was beyond successful. Not only did she find Ference and free him from the villain’s grasp, she melted the hearts of the hundreds of Edmontonians who followed along with her in her journey around the city.

As a way to thank SpiderMable for her heroic efforts, the Edmonton Oilers invited her to drop the puck at Tuesday night’s game against the Arizona Coyotes. She was greeted by hockey fans with a standing ovation.
