An Oregon artist has caused quite an uproar after creating a portrait of U.S. Republican candidate Donald Trump using her own menstrual blood as paint.

Portland native Sarah Levy said her creation was in response to Trump’s attack of FOX News anchor Megyn Kelly – something the billionaire has yet to apologize for even though CEO and Chairman of the news organization, Roger Ailes, called the matter ‘disturbing’ and asked for an apology.

Levy calls her work of art, ‘Whatever’. She says she used a Diva Cup to collect the blood and is currently selling posters on Etsy for $27.14 (CAD).

Reaction to the piece has been mixed. KGW-TV was inundated with negative comments after posting their local coverage on Facebook.

“We appreciate your feedback on this story,” the station’s response read. “The artist is getting national attention for her work, and we felt it was important to let our Portland audience weigh in.”

Facebook user Matt J Ruttan used an image of Kristen Wiig’s character ‘Aunt Linda’ to describe how he felt about the portrait Sarah Levy created on KGW’s Facebook page. Facebook

Trump, for his part, has seemingly been a storm of controversy since he announced he would make a bid for the American presidency and females have often been a victim of his tirades.

He once suggested building a wall across the entire border with Mexico and was recently accused of insulting GOP campaign rival Carly Fiorina’s appearance in a Rolling Stone cover story – a claim he has since brushed off.

“I think there’s a way to use art, especially if it’s a little humorous, to begin to deflate Trump’s arrogance and give back confidence to all the people who might be a tad terrified at the prospect of a racist doofus like him running the country,” Levy later said in a statement.

“This has proven to me that, especially in today’s click-bait culture, art can pry its way into the media spotlight–which, if seized, has the potential to start a conversation and say things that need to be said.”

Levy is currently preparing to auction off the original painting online.
