Nicolas Cage, hair jokes, Mike Duffy references abound as Twitter users mock Harper’s plane

A few hours after Statistics Canada unveiled GDP numbers which confirmed the Canadian economy was in recession, the Conservative party unveiled its campaign plane this week, a large white and blue Airbus A-319 with “Harper 2015” decorating the side.

And almost immediately, people started naming Harper’s plane on social media, employing puns and partisan attacks to have fun with the hashtag #NameHarpersPlane.

Not many Twitter users suggested actual names for the plane, as most people who took part in the trending hashtag were clearly partisan, taking the opportunity to reference the Mike Duffy trial, Harper’s hair, his affinity for the phrase “let me be clear,” or even just to make Nicolas Cage references.

The hashtag was one of the most popular among Canadian twitter users on Tuesday night, rivalling Ryan Goins, the Blue Jays player who hit a walk off home-run against the Cleveland Indians.
