WATCH: Speeders nabbed in school zone
WINNIPEG –One after another after another, drivers were clocked speeding in school zones as the speed limit changed today to 30 kilometers an hour Tuesday.
Winnipeg police Constable JP Chorney was set up in front of Dalhousie School this morning catching more than a dozen speeders in less than a hour.
“This is your speed,” said Chorney, showing a motorist he pulled over her speed on his radar gun, “the speed limit reduces to 30 km during school zones which starts today.”
“Oh, it does,” said the surprised motorists, “I thought it started on the 9th.”
While most students don’t return to school until September 9th or 10th, the school zone speed limit drops on September first and is being enforced.

“September to June, that’s how they’re posted. It’s not when school starts,” said Chorney.
While Constable Chorney was handing out tickets, he did give warnings to drivers who had a clean driving record.
“It’s the first day, some people will get a warning.”
The 30 kilometer an hour speed limit is in effect Monday to Friday, 7 am to 5:30 pm.
Last year from October to June, 40,077 fines were handed out to speeders in school zones.
