‘He’s my son’s little hero’: Cat takes bullet for 3-year-old boy

WATCH: Angelica Sipe says she is thankful her cat Opie was there to save her three-year-old son Daemire from a stray bullet. Jenny Sung explains.

A Pennsylvania house cat is being hailed as a hero for taking a bullet that could have killed a 3-year-old boy.

Angelica Sipe told Fox 43 that a stray bullet flew in through her living room window early morning Thursday and nearly killed her son Daemire, but their cat Opie took the hit instead.

“I took me a second to realize what just happened,” said Sipe. “The first thing I did was check on my son and he was sound asleep. Then I saw my cat on the floor and that’s when I realized my cat was shot.”

Breaking news from Canada and around the world sent to your email, as it happens.

Sipe said the bullet wove its way through Opie’s body, entering above its left eye, out through his neck, then back in through its shoulder and out from its ribs.

The bullet then ricocheted across the room and lodged itself in a pillow just above where the 3-year-old was sleeping.

Sipe is convinced Opie deflected the bullet, saving her son from injury.

Amazingly, Opie survived the incident with some muscle damage and doctors have given him a good prognosis.

Although Sipe was given the option to put the cat down, she knew she had to save his life.

“I am thankful for my cat and am in any way possible going to make sure he comes back home where he belongs,” Sipe wrote on the crowdfunding page she set up to help pay for the vet bills.

According to York City Police, multiple casings were recovered from the area and an investigation is ongoing. Police do not believe anyone other than Opie was injured.
