Toronto teen shot dead in Jamaica, person of interest sought: police

TORONTO – A 14-year-old Toronto boy has been killed following a shooting in Jamaica on Sunday and a person of interest is wanted in connection to the death, according to police.

The Jamaica Constabulary Force issued a statement on Sunday identifying the victim as Ricardo Williams of Scarborough, Ont.

According to a media report, the teen was on vacation when he was fatally shot.

Authorities say the Canadian National was shot at a wake after explosions were reported around 1:51 a.m. local time.

Williams was taken to hospital where he was pronounced dead.

Police have identified the person of interest as Omar “Judge” James of White Lane in Olympic Gardens, Kingston 11.

James is being asked to report to the Hunts Bay Police Station by midday on Aug. 31.

Meanwhile, the Canadian Department of Foreign Affairs issued a statement Monday saying consular officials in Kingston are looking into the death and providing support to the family.

“Our thoughts are with the family and friends of the Canadian Citizen who passed away in Jamaica,” the statement read.

“Canadian consular officials in Kingston are in contact with local authorities to gather additional information and are providing consular assistance to the family as required.”
