Dorval – After four years of waiting, Dorval residents will finally be able to go for a swim at the new aquatic and sports complex, which will be open to the public as of Monday.
The complex boasts two pools; an eight-lane 25-metre pool and a recreational walk-in pool with a giant water slide, a double gymnasium and a multi-purpose room.
At Friday’s inauguration ceremony, Dorval’s Mayor Edgar Rouleau explained that the project was fueled by a need for an indoor pool in the city.
“Our sports infrastructure–our arena, the outdoor pools are great, soccer is great but we didn’t have any indoor pool. We were using John XXIII which was getting to the end so we decided to build a sports complex.”
The $20 million dollar facility took nearly two years to build and was made possible by a partnership between the city and the Marguerite Bourgeoys School Board (CSMB) which donated the land the new complex is built on. In exchange, students from the CSMB will be able to use the city’s new facilities and the old pool at the nearby École secondaire Dorval Jean XXIII will eventually be demolished and repurposed to fit the school’s needs.
The project also benefited from a $5 million subsidy from the Quebec government.
Mayor Rouleau, thanked everyone who contributed to the project and expressed his pride in the city.
“Our motto is ‘It’s great to live in Dorval’ and I think today it shows very much.”
